Love and Fidelity Network (LFN) Inspires Young Adults
By Nicole Kay
Shortly after arriving Friday night, I was pleased to be able to address the entire conference of 250+ students and tell them about the Ruth Institute’s work supporting young adults. I told them about the mission of the Ruth Institute and about the Emerging Leaders program.
Saturday’s classes were all great; I was very impressed by the speakers. I liked how LFN did a private faculty/staff/faith leader lunch with a group discussion on how we could better support students, and what LFN could do to better support us. It was a great opportunity to ask faculty to help mentor and sponsor student groups.
A new aspect this year was an interfaith panel, with representatives from Muslim, Jewish (Dr. Miriam Grossman), Latter Day Saints and Evangelical faiths discussing what the faith background of family theology was. That was very interesting and informative. I think all appreciated a simple explanation of the basic beliefs of others at the conference.
LFN had the literature table out at every snack break, and students snatched up our pamphlets pretty quickly. Lots of students approached me and asked about our student group benefits. I encouraged them all to apply to the next It Takes a Family Conference (ITAF). Lots of ITAF alumn were there, including Casey Gleave and Kendel Christensen, Joseph Petritch and Alexandra Souchuns, Celine Talbot, and many more. I enjoyed finally meeting Patrick Langrell and Sherif Girgis who co-wrote the article “What is Marriage?” with Robby George.
All in all, it was a very productive conference. I was thankful to be a part of it, and to have had the opportunity to spread the word about the Ruth Institute.
