Approval of Supreme Court falls to all-time low: poll

Despite widespread support for the Supreme Court’s decision last week to overturn the federal Defense of Marriage Act, the court has never been more unpopular, a new poll shows.

Just 28% of Americans believe the Supreme Court is doing a good or excellent job, according to a Rasmussen Reports poll released Tuesday.

Another 30% of those polled rated the court’s performance as poor — the largest amount to say so in the nine years that Rasmussen has been asking the question.

Nearly 40% gave the court a “fair” review.

While the ratings show only a modest decline from last week’s poll — when 30% of those surveyed gave the court a good or excellent mark — they mark a dramatic change from four years ago.

After the Supreme Court finished its 2009 session, nearly half of those polled said the justices were doing a good or excellent job. The court’s positive ratings diminished steadily in 2010 and 2011, according to Rasmussen.
