Chinese Government Publicly Threatens Birth-Violators

China-expert releases photos of propaganda menacing violators of China’s one-child policy

WASHINGTON DC: Population Research Institute released photos of official Chinese signs and banners threatening those who dissent from the government’s one-child policy with forced abortions and sterilizations.

The jarring images, along with translations, are expected to shock people outside of China.

PRI President Steven Mosher said: “Americans would be upset and angry if their government put up a sign that read ‘Even if you bleed enough to make a river, you must not give birth to an extra child!’ Such signs are the norm in modern China, however, and are read by people on their way to and from work.”

One banner hanging over a busy street warned: “Call back those who are located far away, dig out those who are hidden. Those who are pregnant outside the policy absolutely must have labor induced! Those who should be sterilized absolutely must be dragged down!”

The photo essay is the second part in a three-part exposé by PRI. The first part, published last week, detailed how those who violate China’s the population control policy were punished more severely than criminals.

PRI is a leading non-profit in documenting and exposing human rights abuses committed in China’s population control program. PRI President Steven Mosher was the first Westerner to report on such abuses when he was living in China in 1979-80.
